There's so much buzz around Twitter lately, and I still am trying to figure out the real value of it as a social media platform. Take the curious case of Ashton Kutcher. Ashton has over 862,000 followers on Twitter. To put it in perspective, CNN has about 900,000. Oh yeah, and I have 100.
How do you leverage social media? Does Ashton Kutcher leverage Twitter, or does Twitter leverage Ashton Kutcher? Is he big on Twitter because he's a celebrity? Sure. But how is his presence on Twitter adding to his celebrity? And what will be the next Twitter-like thing that celebrities and common folk alike can get obsessed with?
The landscape keeps changing so fast that it's hard to keep up. Twitter was only created in 2006. In three years it has skyrocketed, yet to my knowledge it doesn't even generate revenue. They're working on ideas for monetizing it, from what I've heard, but not so much happening right now. It's just a fascinating thing to me.
You could build the next thing that skyrockets like Twitter. But you've got to find your reason to hustle...
